The incredible shrinking Garrett

06 Oct 2010 Media release

The story of Peter Garrett's incredible shrinking portfolio responsibilities continued today when in Question Time it was revealed that Mr Garrett, Minister for Schools, is not responsible for answering questions in the House of Representatives on the School Hall rip-off.

In a bizarre move, this responsibility has been given to Simon Crean, Minister for Regional Australia, Regional Development, Local Government and Minister for the Arts.

During Question Time the Coalition sought to find out when the Government would make good on the Prime Minister's promise during the election campaign to publish all the costing data in the School Hall program, by asking Mr Garrett, the Minister for School Education.

Mr Garrett had no knowledge of the matter as it was apparently Mr Crean's responsibility.

If Mr Garrett can't be trusted by the Labor Government to answer questions on what has always been considered an education program, what exactly is he doing in the Ministry at all?
