The Glitch that stole 'My School'

Reports of a glitch on the 'My School' website could be the tip of the iceberg, Christopher Pyne, Shadow Minister for Education said today.

"A website that ranks a tiny school with one teacher and eight students in the Northern Territory with larger schools in cities is very concerning," Mr Pyne said.

"But when the non-government sector describes the key index that calculates schools socio-economic ranking as 'inaccurate and misleading' it points to another Labor education bungle," he said.

The Coalition has received worrying reports that the restructure of the website may have led to changes that politicise the 'My School' resource.

The education union ran a campaign against the original 'My School' website, even threatening to boycott the national testing (NAPLAN), and they were granted considerable input into the 'My School' redesign by Julia Gillard in a deal to stop the boycott.

However, given the comments in the media today it is clear that the non-government sector was not adequately consulted over the changes.

"When the site is re-launched it will quickly become apparent if this is all part of an elaborate campaign against independent and catholic education, and I can promise that the Coalition will be extremely vocal in its defence of choice and diversity in education," he said.
