Shifty Shorten continues to dodge the question

28 Nov 2013 Media release

For three days in a row Bill Shorten has been asked three times each day why he ripped $1.2 billion from school funding and he has refused to answer. Mr Shorten can’t answer the question because he knows that he is responsible for the school funding shambles. Everyday Mr Shorten hypocritically attacks the Government for the school funding mess he is responsible for creating. Mr Shorten short-changed schools in Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Queensland, cutting their $1.2 billion in funding just before the election. Now it seems Mr Shorten supports a two-tiered system where students in these states receive no additional commonwealth funding. These cuts are in black and white and were confirmed by Treasury. This was Bill Shorten’s ticking time-bomb for the new government. The Coalition is committed to working through this mess by putting in an extra $230 million in 2014 for schools in Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. This will provide funding certainty for the next school year. We will work together with the states to ensure we have a funding model that is national, fair and needs-based for the years ahead. 28 November 2013
