Response to Education Ministers’ Meeting Communiqué

The Gonski report is fading like a hologram after the communiqué of the Education Ministers’ meeting shows that neither the Commonwealth nor any state government has indicated they will back Mr Garrett’s changes to school funding with real dollars.  

There is absolutely no room for Mr Garrett to blame the states for lack of action, when this report’s price tag was never disclosed to the states and the push to make changes to school funding originates solely out of the Federal Labor Government.

Parents with children in non-government schools should be very concerned that without the additional $113 billion, the Gillard Government might cherry pick changes that will result in higher school fees.
