Media release Senator Nick Minchin has served Australia and in particular the people of South Australia in the Senate since 1993 with distinction. He will continue to do so until his term ends on June 30, 2011.
I have known him and worked with him since 1985 through either the Liberal organisation or in Parliament as a colleague - most recently serving together in the Shadow Cabinet.
Nick is one of the most capable and professional politicians in the Liberal Party. He will be a loss to the team. Nick is an erudite and articulate advocate for the causes he believes in – I have always respected his political ability.
In his seventeen years in the Senate he has served as Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Government, in a number of important Ministries including Finance and Administration, Industry, Science and Resources and Special Minister of State. Since 2007 he has served as Shadow Minister for Resources and Energy, Broadband Communications and the Digital Economy and Defence.
On behalf of my South Australian Liberal colleagues, I wish Nick, his wife Kerry and their children Jack, Oliver and Anna every good wish for their future.
