Albanese cant stand the heat in the kitchen
This is a Government that is so feeling the pressure over its carbon tax lie that it has flagged that it may seek to change the standing orders to prevent debate and save its miserable hide, Christopher Pyne, Manager of Opposition Business said today.
Comments made by the Leader of the House, Anthony Albanese today suggest the Government will attempt to change standing orders to prevent Members from moving motions in Question Time that are used to hold the Government to account and that he used himself in Opposition.
"The ability of members to move suspensions and motions in Question Time has been around since the Parliament began. The Government has no right to interfere in the rights of Members and avoid scrutiny,"Mr Pyne said.
"Question Time is already weighted heavily in favour of the Government who use it to 'slag and bag' the Opposition and push their own policies," he said.
I thought there wasn't a worse government in Australia's history than the current NSW Labor Government until now.
"This move will prevent motions of censure against the Prime Minister and Ministers which require the executive to explain to the Parliament their decisions and actions," he said.
Mr Albanese is bringing NSW Labor to Canberra - it started with the political necking of Kevin Rudd and now changing the rules to stop scrutiny.
This is the greatest assault on the Parliamentary system since Paul Keating refused to appear at Question Time.
The Opposition will ferociously defend the Parliament. We will fight any move the Government makes to water down the Standing Orders.
"Labor is running a jackboot democracy," Mr Pyne said.
